Star Tours 2.0 Is Out Of This World

As annual pass holders for Disneyland, BigD and I had a special opportunity to enter a lottery for a preview tour of the new Star Tours on Disneyland.com before the ride opened to the general public on June 3rd and won! Whoo hoo!

Wanting to make the most of the opportunity, I decided to book us a room at one of their hotels, The Paradise Pier Hotel, so we'd be there bright & early for our 9am reservation. This is the closest to an actual vacation that we've been on in some years, so I had to share a few pictures...

This Mickey Waffle didn't survive our breakfast....

Star Tours... The Scenic Way To See The Galaxy...

Arrivals.... Destinations... I'm still not *exactly* clear where we're going again? Maybe this will make more sense to me after I get my 3D glasses on.

The Starspeeder 1000 is a whole lot like the 3000 except it's red & white instead of white & blue.

Hey, is that you R4? Whatchabeenuptomaaaannnn?

Who's this goofy chick in the R2 Mickey Ears hat waiting in line for Star Tours? Oh, right... Can you believe that she was picked to be the Rebel Spy TWICE? Yup, out of cabins full of passengers. Twice.

We really did have some view from our room at the Paradise Pier. Look how much of the boardwalk at Disney's California Adventure you can see from up here. We didn't even need to get tickets for the World Of Color show. All we had to do was open the window.

I had BigD take this last one right before we ended the night with some nookie. I thought it would be a prettier picture without the flash and think I was right.

Overall, we had a lovely time, and I think our two nights away was a good warm-up for a *real* vacation. I feel blessed that we were able to sneak away and while part of me wanted to shoot naughty pictures in our cute, beach-themed hotel room -- I even packed a couple of outfits -- I honestly needed the downtime after going on Star Tours LIKE EIGHT OR NINE TIMES. Talk about being "a little shaken" as C3PO says of the Rebel Spy.

Our preview reservation window went from 9am-1pm, but because they were experiencing technical issues at the start of the day, they expanded it to 4pm. Basically, they allowed me & three of friends to go through the Star Tours Fast Pass once every 30 minutes to get a ticket to get on the ride. That ended up fixing it so that there was more than enough Star Tours for motion-sickness-prone me. I walked BigD & our friend John through the Fast Pass line so they could keep going and going because they are total madmen whose brains don't get rattled by immersive 3D experiences. (I was the contest winner and the reservation was in my name & had my annual passport's barcode registered so I stuck around to make sure they could get on.) I believe when it was all said and done, they went on Star Tours like 18 or 19 times! Why go on it so many times? Because each trip is a little different. There are several randomly-generated scenarios that include different characters (Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Yoda & others) and destinations (Hoth, Kashyyyk, Coruscant, Tatooine & more). My honey got to see all of locations with his many trips. I got to see all of them except Naboo. A little something left for me to be surprised with on future trips aboard the Starspeeder 1000. The Adventures Continue...

So, yes, this new version of Star Tours is awesome and worth the wait time. Today is opening day so expect the lines to be really REALLY long. If you can do a Fast Pass -- do the freakin Fast Pass! And if you're prone to motion sickness but are a huge Star Wars nerd like myself, see if you can get in the first three rows because they're a little less bumpy. My feet didn't even touch the ground in the last row which I think made it feel more intense.

If you missed my earlier Star Tours photos, they're still hosted in my TwitPics here. (We went to Disneyland on May 25th & were extremely lucky/crafty/in the right place at the right time to have caught a "soft opening" & actually saw Star Tours 2.0 for the very first time then, but we only got to go on it once. So, that's why those pictures are dated earlier.)

Star Wars Links Worth Hitting (December 2010)

Ready for a few more Star Wars links that are worth hitting? All three of the ones that I have this go around would make lovely gifts for Christmas or gifts for any occasion just because they are all freakin' awesome anytime of year. That's right, I said it, Star Wars is good any time year round.

"The Sexy"

Star Wars Droids Swim Wear

I'm not sure how many people forward me this link to Black Milk's website because they wanted to make sure that I saw how cool and sexy these droid swim suits were, but it was more than a couple. For a mere $85, you can bask in the the sunshine beside the pool dressed like either R2D2 or C-3PO. One pieces with Star Wars style! I think the only thing that's holding me back from buying either one of these is that they mention that they are unlined. Sure, that'd be cool for camming in, but man, I'd want to proudly wear my Artoo out there at the beach (that like one day a year when I actually go to the beach) and not worry about my little perky nipples sticking out. If I had to guess, I'd say the hot babes modeling these suits are both wearing bras. Anyhoo, a notable find.

"The Adorable"

Chewie & Han By Chris Wahl

Couldn't you just squeal because these Chewie & Han T-Shirts are super duper adorable? I'll take Chewie & Han over Calvin & Hobbes any day. Shirts come in a wide range of different colors and with sizes all the way up to XXXL so almost any fanboy or fangirl will be covered in comfortable cotton cuteness for less than $25. (Don't be surprised if you see me in one of these in my Streamate Chatroom though I haven't bought one yet... I can't make up mind as to which color to get...)

"The Tasty"

Star Wars Vader's Dark Side Roast Coffee

Some of you already know how much I like ThinkGeek stuff (that dashing 8-bit neck tie that I'm wearing in my last blog entry is from ThinkGeek, for example) and this new product they've given us is destined to be a surefire hit. A match made in nerd heaven! Pay homage to the Dark Lord of The Sith and quench your need for caffeine in one fell swoop! I'm going to be sure to order some the next time I place an order for Root Jack. Night owl camgirls gotta keep on our toes, after all. Beverages such as these are the keys to our happiness and success. If you nab some before I do, be sure to let me know how you like it. Please leave a comment here on my blog or tweet me or email me. Before I forget to mention it, I went ahead and made a ThinkGeek Wishlist because I saw they had that feature. I couldn't remember seeing it as an option before, so I dunno, maybe it's relatively new? They really do have way, way too many cool things. I don't recommended even clicking any links to their site unless you have at least 30 minutes to go browsing.

And speaking of wishlists, I've been very fortunate to have received a few things from my Amazon Wishlist lately that I will try to show off here in my blog within the next couple of entries.

Star Wars Links Worth Hitting

I've been on a roll recently with sharing some amazing/sexy/adorable Star Wars links via my twitter lately, but I know not everyone catches me for every tweet as I am somewhat of a twitteraholic. Why not share them here too. I have selfish reasons too, of course, if I blog about them -- then I don't have to keep them as bookmarks. I can just pull up my blog and revisit.

"The Amazing"

The Ultimate Star Wars Apartment

Now, this place is probably the most tidy looking nerd palace I've ever seen. Most collector homes are chock full of not only collectibles but clutter as well. Originally spotted at Gizmodo via this link that was posted by Adam Frucci I believe I might have seen it elsewhere but am not sure now. I think the only things that are missing are the original Star Wars stuff of the Hasbro action figure variety. It's entirely too grown-up over there and needs some kids toys in the mix. It's possible that those are loaded up, still in their original blister packs, hidden in the closet or under the bed. If you think the above picture that I snagged is cool, then you need to see the whole set. And then, read all of the totally jealous user comments. So many boys, so green with envy over other boys collections -- trying to dis it all the way instead of appreciating it for the super stellar spectacle that it is.

"The Sexy"

Galactic Empire Corset Collection

Aren't these Star Wars corsets the freaking bomb? I was completely *blown away* by how original and how sexy these are. And if I were in the market to spend $500-600 on something Star Wars-y, this would be at the top of the list. If pressed to pick between the Galactic Lord or the Galactic Trooper, it would be the Galactic Lord Corset all the way. The matching shrug with floaty cape are divine! And how terribly practical that it also comes with a utility belt. Somewhere to put the keys to the Death Star! :) I first saw these gorgeous costume pieces on Spike, but a quick search on Google turned up the actual maker: Evening Arwen.

And yeah, I saw the Star Trek corsets over at Spike, but ya know, those just weren't quite tickling my fancy. They aren't nearly loaded, are they? ;)

"The Adorable"

Animals With Lightsabers

How can you go wrong with Animals With Lightsabers? See, you just can't. And doesn't the photo above look like it could be my Captain? It's not, of course, it's a white kitty named Roxy. There's a variety of animals wielding lightsabers with more photos being added all the time, so it's good to stop by periodically to see what you missed. Ocassionally, you'll even get a fun Jedi Animal video. A sure way to lift your spirits & celebrate the Force at the same time.

Of Course I Want to See "Zack And Miri Make A Porno"!

It was BigD who originally introduced me to the works of Kevin Smith years ago with what is *still* my favorite of all of his movies Chasing Amy and then some time later all of his earlier movies -- so I can't claim to have been part of the nerd-fan base who knew him from his humble film-making beginnings with Clerks. But I can say that there is a special, warm-fuzzy place in my heart for his films that will always be there. The Star Wars fanboy banter in his movies always gets to me and makes me feel like it's okay to laugh at myself that much harder because *I* am one of those fans too. Maybe not as obsessive as some, but I think camping out on the sidewalk in front of a movie theater for two weeks to see Episode I gets me some street cred. (The fact that I also own a version of Princess Leia's slave bikini from Return of the Jedi that I'm dying to upgrade into an even more authentic version should get me some more.)

So yes, I *do* very much want to see his latest film Zack And Miri Make A Porno not only because it's a Kevin Smith film, but because it's comedic subject matter is near and dear to my heart: homemade porn! I'm not thinking it'll be terribly insightful on the whole making porn thing, but I am looking forward to the intelligent crudeness that's sure to get an empathizing/giggling nod from me. And I was most annoyed to read this news tidbit about how this total "date movie" is being banned in Utah because it has the word "Porno" in the title. Upon first reading about the hubbub, I was like all "C'mon, now, really? Like for really real? In this day and age?" There's a part of me that's still kind of in disbelief that this film was initially slapped with an NC-17 rating when if it's anything like other Kevin Smith's films -- there's going to be one or two brief flashes of nudity and heaps of colorful foul language with a sprinkling of nerd fanboy jokes to keep folks like me happy -- and that's all. No actual "pornography" -- not that I think there's a thing wrong with that coming from my perspective. ;) Yeah, so if you know nothing about Zack & Miri and go with hopes that you'll be seeing an actual porno, I can promise you'll be disappointed. So go to see it because you might see wit like this clip from Clerks 2. This is one of the highlights of the movie that I just *had* to dig up on YouTube to share. Super geek fanboys square off: Star Wars VS Lord Of The Rings. (And you need not ask which side, I am on. I'm with Randal all the way; there is only ONE trilogy!)

I'm not sure when we'll get to see the movie, but I'm glad that we'll be able to use my "prize" for winning the best ladies costume as the sexy Miss Freddy Krueger at the Halloween party I went to on the 31st. I scored two movie tickets for that one, whoo hoo! Guess that costume deserves it's own gallery of photos for next year, huh? ;)
